July 24, 2010 Feedback

“A student learns what his teacher knows...
but a disciple becomes what his master is.."

A key aspect of transformation is focus.  The catalyst for the process of transformation is to chose what our focus will be. We become 1) what we believe and 2) and what we focus on.  Mentoring does not happen without the disciple focusing on being mentored. Most Christians focus on almost anything but Jesus.  Our world is full of distractions that seek to take our focus off of Jesus and put it on ourselves.  If someone wants to be a disciple then they must take the steps into an environment where their focus is Jesus.  Discipling is increased by the power of the environment, the will of the one being discipled together with mature believers willing to shared. Mentoring is transactional.  But the transaction is not about pay or temporal rewards but about a willingness to have someone speak into your life.  Transformation is a process done over time, with great frequency, focused intensity and feedback.  We often think we can go through the process without the last one.  We should desire feedback: feedback from God, feedback from those who mentor me and feedback from all areas of my environment.  Our goal is to then evaluate the feedback as to it applicability.  God will give us feedback our environment is giving us constant feedback, but generally a mentor will give feedback only when invited.  Who have you invited to give you feedback about how you live?
